Yarra Valley Ladies in Pink Melbourne Breast Cancer Bra Walk & Fundraising Evening
The Pinker sisters Sue, Catherine and Kim were raised in the Yarra Valley. When Kim was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 31 in 2007, the sisters were spurred to take action to bring greater awareness of breast cancer within their local community.
Their passion and dedication has seen them create the “Melbourne Breast Cancer Bra Walk”.This year's walk is in support of the Yarra Valley Ladies in Pink and Maroondah Breast Clinic.
A pre-walk VIP fundraising night is being held on Tuesday 16 October at Linley Estate in Kilsyth. There are some great auction items up for grabs, including a Peugeot Bike signed by Olympic Champion, Shane Kelly.

Yarra Ranges Relay for Life
On Saturday 18 August, the Yarra Ranges Relay for Life committee, with the help of local businesses, “painted the town purple” to launch the 2012 Relay for Life.
I was pleased to be able to lend a hand at their sausage sizzle outside Mount Evelyn IGA, which was a great success.
Mount Evelyn Scout Group celebrated their annual awards night on Monday 27 August. I was pleased to be there to congratulate award recipients from each section- Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers and Leaders.
A special congratulations to Barry Kennedy on his Adult Long Service award for 40 years of service and to Katelyn McNab on her Queens Scout award.
Along with students from Coldstream Primary School, I visited Animal Aid on Wednesday 25 July to meet Sampson, the black Labrador who weighed a staggering 85kg when he was surrendered to Animal Aid last year.
Since then, Sampson has lost 37kg and is well on the way to his target weight of 40kg. Animal Aid have launched, Sampson’s Challenge, to raise funds for the redevelopment of their Coldstream site.
I have recently had the pleasure of meeting members from the Monbulk District Men’s Shed and the Yarra Glen Men’s Shed.
The opening of the Monbulk Men’s Shed was made possible by the hard work and dedication of not only the committee, but also the various community groups and individuals of Monbulk who have worked together to make the shed possible.
The Yarra Glen Men’s Shed has not yet been built, however the committee are already working hard in the community. I visited with the group at their July coffee morning and was updated on the community projects they have completed, including the Healesville Hospital landscaping project.

I was proud to participate in the Yarra Valley Vietnam Veterans Day Remembrance Service in Yarra Glen. My most recent Mount Evelyn Mail Column gave me the opportunity to pay tribute to our Vietnam Veterans. You can read my column here.
On Wednesday 12 September, I joined Labor MP, Stephen Jones on Sky Lunchtime Agenda, hosted by David Lipson, to discuss a number of current issues.
