The Monbulk Football Netball Club and the Monbulk Cricket Club have been providing social and sporting direction for Yarra Ranges residents since the late 1800s. This investment will improve facilities for the local community.
Liberal Member for Casey, Tony Smith, welcomed the announcement and congratulated the local community and Yarra Ranges Council for supporting this worthy project.
"Together with $1 million pledged by Council and $600,000 by the State Government with the remaining funds to come from the Club, this $600,000 from a re-elected Turnbull Liberal Team will make the project a reality,” Mr Smith said.
"The Club has been fundraising and planning for this important upgrade for a significant period of time.
"The new facility will be of great benefit to current and future footballers, netballers and cricketers and will build a stronger Monbulk community.
"The Monbulk Pavilion is a valuable community hub and this new improved facility will provide the opportunity to host a range of other community activities beyond its core sporting activities.
Minister Nash emphasised the importance of supporting local communities.
"As Minister for Regional Development I am clearly focused on creating the communities that our children and grandchildren want to stay in or move back to. This commitment continues to deliver on this vision,” said Minister Nash.
"Tony Smith has been a passionate advocate for improved community and sporting facilities across the Casey community for many years.
"As a rural person myself, I know how important local sporting clubs are as community hubs, and the importance of this project to all members of the Monbulk Hawks and the Yarra Valley Mountain District Football and Netball League.”
The $600,000 is fully budgeted and is part of election costings.
