The President of the Senate, Senator the Hon Stephen Parry, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Hon Tony Smith MP, are pleased to announce the reappointment of Mr Phil Bowen PSM as Parliamentary Budget Officer.

Mr Bowen, the inaugural Parliamentary Budget Officer, has been reappointed to the position from 23 July 2016 for a period of one year, under the Parliamentary Service Act.

The Presiding Officers’ reappointment was approved by the Joint Committee for Public Accounts and Audit, in accordance with the Act.

“We thank Mr Bowen for the important role he has played in establishing the Parliamentary Budget Office in 2012. The Parliamentary Budget Office has developed a highly regarded reputation for independence and integrity in preparing policy costings and budget analyses for all parliamentarians who request such services,” said President Parry.

“The next twelve months will be very busy for the Parliamentary Budget Office, with a federal election expected this year. We know that Mr Bowen will continue to serve all Members and Senators by providing independent and non-partisan analysis of the budget cycle, fiscal policy and the financial implications of proposals,” said Speaker Smith.
